Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X
Tria Hair Removal Laser 4x
The Tria Hair Removal Laser has held up again this year to be the picked out as the best overall. It is FDA-approved and easy for use at home laser treatment. The Tria Hair Removal Laser 4x is a dermatologists’ invention using diode laser technology. The product was loved by our panelists and also won the Beauty Best Buy Awards by InStyle.
One trick to note, when you get it home and go to use it for the first time. In order to turn it on for the first time, here are the “secret instructions” on how to get the device to work. Which is by holding down the power button (it must be unplugged) until it you get to a five count, and that’s when you must release the power button (if you go over the five count and release, it may not activate). Then it’ll make a successful beep sound, it will now stay on each time you press the power button.
Why our reviews are trustworthy
We have covered beauty products, including home laser hair removers here since Tria Beauty launched its very first at-home laser hair removal product over in Japan back in 2005. It later received FDA approval and launched in the U.S. in 2008. Since then we have looked at a large number of laser hair removers to create this review each year.
We always keep up with reviews from other noteworthy companies that also test or review products, such as, Total Beauty, Amazon and Sephora though we do find sometimes that the coverage is not as comprehensive as it could be. Then we do our own testing by selecting our participating experts, ourselves and members of our consumer product testing groups to provide their feedback through our product testing panels.
*This review covers the best home laser removers on the market before and since the last time we created this guide.
Our Other Top Picks:

Who should get these?
Everyone who wants to save a fortune on salon laser hair removal treatments, most of us will go to amazing lengths in order to find that perfect soft hairless feel. We will spend all of our money on various products we’ve tested, read reviews until our heads spin and, of course, allow salon experts and people on TV and magazine advertorials to convince us that their product is the best. Well, in order to put an end to this madness and to hopefully save you time and hassle (plus a few bucks) by sharing with you the results of our extensive research and testing.
How we began the test selection process
We started by making a list of all of the best home laser hair removers that we could find for sale in retailers stores and online. We then combed through thousands of reviews to be able to bring you the most helpful, insightful information on the top rated laser hair removers for home use. We listed 36 in the original selection process for this category.
There are so many variables to get right: the materials, the size, comfort (pain level) and how effective they were are at permanently killing the hair follicle, which absorbs heat from the laser when the hair is in an active growth cycle, thus preventing the hair from growing again.
Laser hair removal has one significant limitation. The follicles only absorb light when there is contrast between the hair and skin — a light skinned person with dark hair will have great success. However, if you have dark skin or light hair, you probably should not bother with laser hair removal at all. There are countless different types of laser hair removers out there, and choosing the right one is also key to success or failure.
So if you are considering a home laser remover, take a gander at the best ones on this list and ask yourself: “Self, would you say such lovely things about the razor you use to shave with?” If the answer is no, it’s time to get yourself a home laser remover – armed with this review.
After wading through hours of reading everything from scientific papers, and manufacturers product specifications to consumer reviews (plus a few heated debates between us), we were then able to whittle the list down to the 10 machines we brought in for testing.
How we tested them
We matched a range of exact shades of skin and hair color from our consumer panelists and then sent out the products for them to test at home, and also got them ready for our in-house panelists. Once everyone had their products to test, each panelist started by noting down the feel, build quality, size and other basic statistics for the laser removers.
Then, before treating, we each had to test a patch of skin first to ensure our suitability for the laser. Once that was completed, the instructions were simple, to treat the desired area (in this case we also chose different parts of the body across the panelists) once every two weeks, and to monitor the reduction in hair growth within the first two, three, four and six weeks after the treatment started, with a final reduction score at the end of week eight. So, armed with the products, we started incorporating them into our bi-monthly beauty routines for the two months and monitored the reductions and comfort levels.
Once the eight weeks were up and we had finished testing all the home laser removers, we analyzed the results to find out the top ten ranking order. Then we looked at the current retail prices for each one and found our favorite picks were not always the more expensive ones. Though, mostly with these products, price does correlate pretty well with quality.
