Why are our reviews are trustworthy?
We have covered vacuums at ReviewLatest for a long time now, logging hundreds of hours of research and testing in that time. We’ve looked at hundreds of vacuums on the market of all types, handheld, cordless, robots and traditional vacuum cleaners at several typical homes with varied floor types.
We keep up with reviews from other noteworthy companies that also test products, such as, Reevoo, Good Housekeeping, and Which? though we do find that the coverage of this category is not as comprehensive as it could be.
Then we do our own testing of handheld vacuums ourselves and also look at what other people have to say about them after they have product tested at home. This is conducted with our own consumer product testers, who provide their feedback through our product testing panels.

Handheld vacuum cleaners are convenient for quick cleanups around the house:
For example, a good handheld vacuum can clean up spilled sugar a lot quicker than having to get your other vac out from its storage place, unwrap the cord and plug it in.
How we began the test selection process
We listed over 67 models in the original selection process for this category:
We started by making a list of every handheld vacuum that we could find for sale in retailers stores and online. We wanted to find handheld vacuums that were easy to clean up small spillages that made it as easy as possible to tidy up small messes, or messes where a regular vacuum couldn’t easily reach.
We looked for the following criteria:
• User Ratings
• Suction/ Power
• Battery Type
• Battery Life
• Recharge Time
Using these specifications, we narrowed the list down to 15 handheld vacuums we tested.
How we tested them
The final selection we chose were tested by ourselves and our consumer panelists in our homes for several weeks. With every type of flooring, surfaces, nooks and crannies, we tested the vacuums for everyday tasks like cleaning crumbs off floors or countertops, tidying up the car and picking up tufts of pet hair. The most typical reasons you would use a handheld vacuum.
We also set up tests to gauge suction by pouring 100g each of flour, wood shavings from our BBQ smoker, coffee grounds from a Burr coffee grinder and crumbs from a toaster out on a countertop and on a carpet, then used each of the vacuums to suck up the debris and worked out the amount each of the vacuums picked up, the length of time required and how easy they were to operate.

Why Buy A Hand Held Vacuum?
We have used vacuum cleaners for decades now in the battle to rid our homes of dirt, grime, dust and microbes. However, the regular vacuum cleaner is a large and unwieldy machine that isn’t always best for the small clean-ups you usually have to do around a house. This is where handheld vacuum cleaners come in. A handheld vacuum cleaner or handheld vacuum for short is a great appliance to use for any minor cleaning such as a spill. It is also great for the areas that are tough to clean such as the stairs or the nooks and corners that your bigger vacuum can’t get into.
There are two types of hand held vacuums – cordless and corded:
The former is a small handheld vacuum that is great for getting into the corners that your large vacuum can’t get into. It is portable and maneuverable so you can use it for quickly cleaning up any spots of dirt or dust you might find. However, it doesn’t run for long on its power and generally needs to be recharged after about 15 to 20 minutes. If you need a hand held vacuum that runs longer, it would be wise to invest in a corded handheld vacuum. These can run for as long as you need them to and usually come with fairly long cords that make it easy for you to move around without having to unplug the device and plug it back in.
What Should You Look for in a Hand Held Vacuum Cleaner?
Hand held vacuum cleaners come with a variety of features. However, before you pick the best handheld vacuum for you, you need to keep certain points in mind regarding both the performance of the cleaner and where you’ll be using it and for what.
Where do you plan to use your handheld vacuum? If you plan to use it indoors, either a cordless or corded one will do. However, if you are planning to use the small handheld vacuum cleaners for cleaning up your porch or deck, a corded hand held vacuum might not be your best bet since you’ll probably need an extension cords. You are better off using a cordless model but keep in mind that it does not run long and will need to be recharged in ten to twenty minutes.
How long does your typical everyday cleaning take? If it takes just a few minutes a cordless hand held vacuum cleaner is fine. But, if it takes longer than that, for example if you plan to clean the stairs or clean all the nooks and corner in your house, a corded version is better since it’ll stay powered up as long as it is connected to an electrical outlet. You can also choose a cordless version that has a lithium-ion battery since that tends to last as long as twenty minutes.
If you have pets such as a cat or a dog, come shedding season you know what a nightmare it is to get pet hair out of anything, especially carpets, rugs, curtains, upholstery and even clothes. The best handheld vacuums for pet hair come with a variety of attachments that can help you clean up these stubborn hairs. A handheld pet hair vacuum can have extended hoses, pet hair attachments made of rubber and motorized brush rolls. Any of these attachments makes it easier for you to use your handheld vacuum to clean up stubborn pet hair.
If you are thinking of a cordless hand held vacuum, remember that you will need to recharge it when it’s not in use. If you like to store your vacuum cleaner out of sight, your storage area needs to have a power outlet so you can plug in the cordless vacuum and let it charge. However, if this is not an option then you are better off investing in a corded hand held vacuum.
How Often You Use It
If you use cordless hand held vacuums for pet hair, you’ll need to ensure that you put the cleaner to charge. Some cordless hand held vacuums take up to 24 hours to recharge, so unless you’re only planning to use it next day, the cleaner will be unavailable. However, a lithium-ion cordless hand held vacuum will charge up in about 2 to 4 hours so that you can use it the next day.
A handheld vacuum comes with a lot of features that you need to keep in mind when selecting the best handheld pet hair vacuum.
Since you have to carry the vacuum around, you need to make sure that it isn’t too heavy, especially if you have been carrying it around for some time. A small handheld vacuum under 5 pounds is best.
Length of Cord
Constant plugging and unplugging can be very frustrating so make sure that your handheld vacuum cleaner come with long power cords.
Get a model that has proper filtration so that the dust and microbes aren’t released back into the air post cleaning. Some models come with HEPA filters that are used in air filters too.
Type of filters
Try to get a model with a filter that is washable. This ensures that you don’t have to change the filters every few months.
Invest in a handheld vacuum that uses dirt cups rather than bags. These cups collect the dirt sucked up during cleaning and you can reuse them after you have removed the debris.
Clear Waste Container
Buy a model that allows you to check the waste container at a glance and determine whether the vacuum cleaner needs to be emptied.
This attachment ensures that corners that the cleaner itself can’t get to can be cleaned.
High Voltage Rating
A cordless handheld vacuum cleaner that has a higher voltage rating is more powerful. Some models go up to 20V.
This accessory helps to clean up stubborn dust and dirt that seems to stick to various surfaces such as your floors, carpets and even helps remove pet hair from your clothes and other cloth surfaces.
