Why our reviews are trustworthy
We have been covering beauty here at ReviewLatest.com for a long time now, we have spend literally days of hours of research and testing in that time (we need a great eye makeup remover too). We’ve looked at a large number of eye makeup removers and consulted experts (see the end) to create this review each year. We keep up with reviews from other noteworthy companies that also test or review beauty products, such as, Total Beauty, Amazon and Sephora. Then we do our own extensive testing of eye makeup removers with ourselves, the experts and selected product testers, who product test them at home and provide their feedback through our product testing panel program.
*This review covers the top eye makeup removers on the market before and since the last time we created this review.
Who should get this?
Everyone who wears makeup, let’s face it, when it comes to makeup removers, most of us will go to amazing lengths in order to find the one that removes our eye makeup and moisturizes our skin to give the best flawless finish. We will spend all of our money on eye makeup cleansers we have seen in advertisements with ‘experts’ on TV, in magazine or read in reviews until our heads spin, trying to convince us that their eye makeup remover is the best. Well, in order to put an end to this media madness and to hopefully save you time and hassle, we are sharing with you the results of our extensive research and testing.
How we began the test selection process
We started by making a list of all of the top rated eye cleansing products that we could find for sale both on the high street and online. We listed 47 in the original selection process for this category.
Eye makeup removers, like most beauty necessaries, are personal each of us. To choose one, you need to have a deep knowledge of your own eyes and skin type. We combed through thousands of beauty reviews and scientific papers to bring you the most helpful, insightful information about the top rated eye makeup removers. These are the eye cleansers that stand out in a world of mediocre products available today.
So before you make your decision, take a look at this review and ask yourself: “Self, would you say such great things about your eye makeup remover?” If the answer is no, it’s time to get yourself a new one with our help.
We started by looking at the basics, so we removed the ones with controversial ingredients. We know there are some ingredients that one person is alright with and that makes another person run a mile. So to warrant being given the chop, ingredients had to increase the risk of clogging pores or cause an increase in the risk of skin irritation or UV damage.
Here’s what we excluded:
- Octinoxate and Oxybenzone
- Sodium lauryl sulfate
- Retinyl acetate and retinyl palmitate
- Quaternium-15 and Diazolidinyl urea
So, when we had finished hours of reading up on everything from scientific papers to consumer reviews on eye cleansers and product specifications (plus a arguments), we were then able to get the list down to the 14 top eye makeup removers we then brought in to be tested.
How we tested them
We matched the removers to a cross section of our consumer panelists, in terms of age, lifestyle and skin types and then sent the products out for them to test at home, and also got them ready for our in-house panelists (including us). Once everyone had their products to test, each panelist started by completing the basic statistics for the removers, such as the pack size, texture, packaging and of course ingredients.
Then, before testing started, we each had to test a patch of skin first to ensure our suitability to use each product (better to be safe than sorry). Once that was completed, the instructions were simple, to use the eye makeup removers every day (or when we each wore makeup, which was most days!), and to monitor how well they performed and how much we liked them within the first 2 days and then after 4 days, then at the end of the first week and then a final score given after 2 weeks. So, we incorporated them into our daily beauty routines for the 2 weeks and monitored the feeling, cleanliness and skin reactions.
When choosing which makeup remover was best, we simply looked for 4 basic characteristics: It takes off everything in one wipe, it didn’t irritate our skin or clog our pores and didn’t leave any oily residue on our pillowcases (not much to ask for is it really).
Once the 2 weeks were up and we had finished testing and scoring the eye makeup removers, we compiled the results together and sent them to be analyzed, and we patiently, (well some of us) waited to find out which ones came out as the top eye makeup removers to buy. Then we looked at the current prices for each of them and found our favorite picks were not always the more expensive ones. Our top pick turned out to be the best value of all of the finalists.
